Newborn photoshoots tips

When to book?

Book your newborn photoshoot when you’re still pregnant. Usually we speak about it at the time of your maternity session if you have on with me 😉 As a placeholder we use baby due date, but that’s not final! When he or she arrives, just let me know, and we’ll find a date that will work for you. I always keep space in my calendar if I have a newborn shoot coming, so don’t worry about that. You don’t have to have a session in the first 2 weeks of baby’s life. They are more sleepy and floppy in the beginning, which helps with posed studio shoots in buckets or baskets, but we’re not doing that, so it doesn’t matter. Let’s have the shoot when YOU feel ready to have a photographer around.

How should I prepare my house?

Don’t stress about mess in your house. You just had a human, you live there, it’s normal. When I come to your house, I’ll assess the space for best location in terms of light, and then we can move a few things around if necessary. Usually we stick to the bedroom and living room by the window.

What do you want to capture

Skin to skin or breastfeeding photos of close intimacy and connection are part of my newborn shoots. If you don’t feel like it, just let me know. It’s not obligatory (although I very much recommend it!)

What about the outfits?

I have newborn outfits, wicker basket, blankets and muslins. And of course a whole wardrobe of dresses for mama. I’m always happy to help with styling the rest of fam too!
